FREDERICK, Md. – Americans will soon have over one billion credit cards, debit cards and charge cards in their wallets, predicted cardweb.com, a company whose research tracks many card trends. Americans already have more than 926 million cards as of mid-2005, the site reported. That translated into 682 million credit card and 244 million debit cards whose transactions cardholders can validate with their signatures. Over the past five years, the number of credit cards has increased by 24% and the number of debit cards by 63%, the site reported.
