SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Sunmark Federal Credit Union has raised over $20,000 through its Hurricane Relief Fund. The fund was established in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to assist the American Red Cross in its efforts towards the disaster. "The charitable effort shown by our members is remarkable," said Sunmark FCU President/CEO Bruce M. Beaudette. "To see our members and the surrounding communities contribute charitable support for the communities affected by Hurricane Katrina is truly heartwarming." Approximately $11,665 has been raised through individual member contributions to the Hurricane Relief Fund, and Sunmark FCU has contributed another $11,665 in matching funds to the effort. The American Red Cross estimates that more than $2 billion will be required to meet its cost for the emergency needs of Hurricane Katrina survivors. This is a sum 20 times greater than the relief provided by the Red Cross for all hurricanes in 2004.
