Nevada Federal Credit Union, Las Vegas, staffers led by Vittoria Locatelli have helped raise over $3,600 to support the national organization of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society "Team In Training" program. Funds were raised through a Nevada Federal employee Bar-B-Que, corporate sponsorship, and other creative events. A 12-year-old Las Vegas girl, currently being treated for lymphoma, has been chosen as the honored patient for proceeds raised. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society "Team In Training" program supports the mission to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families by paying for treatments and prescription drugs. Kauai Community Federal Credit Union, Lihue, Hawaii , has raised $10,000 for the children here during its 6th Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Proceeds from the KCFCU charity golf tournament were donated to Wilcox Health Foundation for Pediatric Services via the Kapiolani Children's Miracle Network. Over 70 different sponsors donated to the cause and it proved to be a very popular tournament drawing golfers from around the island and the nation. The golfers, sponsors and over thirty volunteers made this event a success. Wy-South Federal Credit Union, Wyandotte, Mich., has donated school supplies to local schools. School officials will distribute the supplies to students who are in the greatest need. Horizons Federal Credit Union, Binghamton, N.Y. staffers have volunteered their time, sweat and muscles to help spruce up Danielle House as part of United Way of Broome County's Day of Caring. Danielle Houseprovides temporary housing at low or no cost to out-of-town family members of patients who are staying at local medical centers for extended periods of time. Day of Caring has been held each year since 2002 to honor the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001 through community service. About 1,000 volunteers from the community participate each year by performing service projects at local non-profit agencies. This is the second year Horizons FCU has participated in the event. California Credit Union League, Rancho Cucamonga, and Bay Area credit unions have teamed up to help raise funds in the fight against AIDS. Year after year the California Credit Union League Coalition Against AIDS has been recognized as a top twenty fundraising team. And this year`s team was ranked 14 out of 800, and were $26.00 shy from raising $41,000.00. All proceeds from AIDS WALK 2005 benefit 38 AIDS organizations in the Bay Area. Aerospace Community Credit Union, St. Charles, Mo., has pledged $30,000 to the Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County initiative called Building Homes …Changing Lives. (ACCU) located in Hazelwood, St. Charles, and Downtown St. Louis, has joined a distinguished group of community leaders in sponsoring Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County. The initiative is a three-year plan to: develop a distinctive nine-home Habitat for Humanity neighborhood in Wentzville; build an additional 12 affordable and attractive Habitat for Humanity homes in St. Charles County; create hope and homeownership opportunities for hard-working, low-income families; and create exciting team building and hands-on community outreach opportunities for churches and businesses throughout St. Charles County. Bellco Credit Union, Denver, has donated $25,000 to Mount Saint Vincent, a residential and day treatment facility for children with severe emotional and behavioral problems. This marks the third year that Bellco has contributed to Mount Saint Vincent, bringing the total amount donated to $70,000. Donations received from Bellco are applied in several areas, including offsetting the considerable operating costs to provide continued support and care for its children; building renovation and construction; participation in special programs; and scholarship funds. To commemorate Bellco's donation, a plaque will be mounted in the library where the children spend time learning new topics, including financial education. Naval Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union, Virginia Beach, Va., has delivered more than 350 packs and pieces of school supplies to Samaritan House. Supplies included things like 79 spiral notebooks, 33 packs of crayons and 10 backpacks. Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union, Tampa, Fla., has donated $100,000 to the All Children's Hospital. In total, $4,146,983 was raised for the region's referral center for specialized pediatric care. Some 71 Suncoast Schools FCU employees participated in the annual Telethon, "Building Miracles," broadcast. Since 1998, Suncoast School FCU has donated $790,000 to All Children's Hospital and has volunteered more than 400 employees to staff the 22-hour Telethon, part of Children's Miracle Network.
