ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA announced last week that it has scheduled its fifth annual Budget Briefing and Public Forum for Oct. 19. The forum will run from 10 am until noon at the agency's Alexandria headquarters. The public is invited to register to make 10-minute oral statements, but due to time constraints, NCUA reserves the right to select speakers. Requests to speak must be received by Oct. 12. NCUA Executive Director Len Skiles will present the proposed budget for the presenters and audience. The NCUA Board and senior staff will attend the presentation. In addition, written remarks can be submitted to the agency through Nov. 18 at [email protected] or faxed to 703-518-6319 or mailed to Mary Rupp, Secretary of the Board, National Credit Union Administration, 1775 Duke Street, Alexandria, Va. 22314. NCUA typically announces its budget for the following year at the November board meeting. Former NCUA Chairman Dennis Dollar began the tradition of opening NCUA's budget up to public comment prior to the board finalizing it and Chairman JoAnn Johnson has continued it through now its fifth year. "The briefing is an important part of the NCUA's efforts in formulating the agency's 2006 budget," Johnson commented. "Looking forward to the opportunities and challenges of 2006, we value the opportunity to present a forum, where beneficial input is gathered annually from the credit unions NCUA regulates and/or insures. As we continue the agency's focus on maintaining the wise use of resources, it is vital for NCUA's stakeholders to have an open, complete view of the proposed budget."
