KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Attendees at the NACUSO CEO Collaborative here Sept. 19-21 were asked by NACUSO Chairwoman Ava Milosevich to contribute to the Hurricane Katrina and Rita Funds which will be matched by NACUSO. Six hundred sixty-five dollars was raised, and NACUSO plans to add $500 to that amount, making a total of $1,165 so far. A second collection will be taken at the upcoming NACUSO Business Services Collaborative being held in Chicago Oct. 11-13. NACUSO will match those funds as well. All the money raised from both collections will go to the Bel-Aire Baptist Church in Gulfport, Miss. which has been serving hundreds of hot meals every day to those displaced by the devastating storms. NACUSO General Counsel Guy Messick contacted the office of Dollar and Associates in Birmingham, Ala. and asked Kirk Cuevas, a principal in the company and formerly the chief of staff and counsel to Dollar when he was NCUA chairman, for assistance with a contact that would provide a direct benefit to evacuees. "We wanted to do our part, as so many in the credit union world have, and the most immediate aid we could help to sustain is feeding people who have been driven from their homes. We appreciate Kirk's identifying the Bel-Aire Baptist Church as one place that has done much to help victims and continues to do so today," said Messick. [email protected]
