WASHINGTON-Two more lawmakers have been added as backers of the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (H.R. 2317) as of press time. Congressman William "Lacy" Clay (D-Mo.) officially signed on, as did Congressman Norm Dicks (D-WA). There are currently 96 co-sponsors to CURIA, in addition to Congressman Ed Royce (R-Calif.). In remarks at NAFCU's Congressional Caucus PAC breakfast, Royce encouraged the credit union delegates to urge their representatives to become co-sponsors. He said this would help make the case to add CURIA's member business lending and Prompt Corrective Action reform provisions into the regulatory relief legislation. "Chairman Bachus is very much aware of the needs of credit unions…He's agreed to have an upcoming hearing on this legislation," Royce announced. -
