TULLAHOMA, Tenn. – AEDC Federal Credit Union has donated $25,223.93 to the American Red Cross to help the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. That total includes donations from credit union employees, members and matching funds from the credit union. Employees who donated at least $5 to the credit union’s Katrina Disaster Relief Fund could “dress down” to blue jeans on the first two Fridays and Saturdays in September. Many employees donated far more than the minimum, bringing employee contributions to $4,696.75. The credit union matched that amount and added $606.50 to make the total an even $10,000. Credit union branches collected $15,223.93 in donations from members. Of the total $25,223.93 collected, $1,000 was donated to the Red Cross’ Treis County Chapter to assist hurricane evacuees in Tullahoma. Another $1,000 was donated to the Heart of Tennessee Chapter in Murfreesboro to aid evacuees there. The remainder was sent to the Washington, D.C. headquarters of the Red Cross to assist Hurricane Katrina victims in Mississippi and Louisiana. “Our employees and members have responded to this tragedy in a tremendous way,” AEDC CU President/CEO Caren Gabriel said. “I am very proud of them all. These funds will ensure that victims’ basic necessities of food, shelter and clothing are met immediately.”
