BUFFALO, N.Y.-Western Division Federal Credit Union received approval from NCUA for the largest community charter in the history of Western New York. NCUA approved the credit union to serve about 1,000,000 people in Erie and Chautauqua Counties. Western Division FCU already serves more than 12,500 members from over 250 employer groups, churches, unions, and associations. “Having a community focus is an incredible opportunity for the community, our credit union and possibly other credit unions who share our philosophy of serving the community with a branch network,” President and CEO Craig Mellenthien commented. “Now more people can take advantage of our products and services, and we will be able to impact the community even more positively than in the past. Individuals throughout both counties – including areas traditionally underserved by commercial banks – will now be able to enjoy the advantages of banking with Western Division; namely; low-cost financial products, competitive interest rates on savings and loans and personalized service. Western Division FCU was established in 1937 and is based in Williamsville, N.Y.
