HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Credit Union Association provided support for a day-long telethon held September 9th to raise funds for survivors of Hurricane Katrina. The telethon ran from 5:30 a.m. – 9 p.m. and was held in conjunction with the National Association of Broadcasters, WGAL-TV in Lancaster. "It's the least we can do," PCUA President/CEO Jim McCormack told Susan Shapiro, co-anchor of "News 8 Today" for WGAL-TV, Lancaster in a live interview that day. PCUA provided a credit card machine to accept credit card donations and, as part of its donation, paid the interchange fee for the card payments. In addition, PCUA staff members as well as employees of Lancaster Red Rose CU, Wheatland FCU, and Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union volunteered to answer phones and process donations. By the end of the day, more than $200,000 was raised by WGAL-TV from the telethon.
