WESTBROOK, Maine – With Sunday, Sept. 11 marking the fourth anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks, the Maine Credit Union League used the theme of `People Remembering & Helping People' for its fourth annual 9/11 tribute to the six Red Cross Chapters of Maine. Credit unions from throughout the state paid tribute to the victims of 9/11 and their families at the event, and presented checks for $911 to the Emergency Food Relief Fund of each of six Red Cross Chapters in the state. The donation is from the Main Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger and is for each Red Cross Chapter's Emergency Food Relief Fund. Since 2001, through the Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger, Maine's credit unions have contributed over $20,000 to the Emergency Food Relief Funds of Maine's Red Cross Chapters in memory of 9/11. The tribute included a color guard ceremony presented by the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 832 of South Portland, remarks from credit union and Red Cross representatives and monetary contributions totaling $5,466.00. The ceremony ended with each Chapter representative lighting a special remembrance candle at the 9/11 Memorial in Portland.
