I am responding to a question Mike Welch posed in his Sept. 7 column. “Does a league keep track of all the volunteers serving its credit unions?” It has been the practice of the Delaware Credit Union League to keep an active list of all credit unions volunteers serving the 35 credit unions in the state of Delaware. This includes boards, supervisory committees, and where applicable credit committees. This list is used to send out League publications and to notify volunteers when volunteer training is offered by the League. In addition, a letter of welcome with resources and training opportunities (such as CUNA's Volunteer Achievement Program) are sent to all new volunteers after their election. The only downside of this process is that we must rely on our credit unions to provide us with updated names and addresses annually after their annual meetings. Obviously this database is easier for a small league to maintain than for a larger league, but we feel it important. Alice A.
