ST. PAUL, Minn. – Affinity Plus FCU is continuing to try and locate more than 100 of its members that have some connection to Hurricane Katrina-ravaged areas in Louisiana, Alabama and other Southern states. The $1 billion CU is doing its part to help them by matching a $10,000 donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Affinity Plus FCU employees started reaching out to members in those areas on Friday, September 2, and calls will continue until all members are reached in some way, the CU said. If members are not reached by phone, employees will also e-mail or use alternative phone numbers or emergency contact information. “The thought of our members in dire need was the driver for this campaign,” said Kyle Markland, president/CEO, Affinity Plus FCU. “My hope is that we will reach the majority of members or their families and lend a helping hand in any way we can.” Affinity Plus has also given up advertising rights as corporate sponsor of the Minnesota Twins for an inning at a game to be determined, in order for the Twins to use the ad space to showcase the American Red Cross Disaster Relief hotline number. “Members make the core of our credit union, and we work diligently to build close relationships with them across the state, even across the nation,” Markland said. “We support our members in many different ways, and we have to stick by them through this time.” The CU serves more than 125,000 members.
