ATLANTA – To help guard against identity theft and other such crimes, Atlanta Postal Credit Union will be checking outgoing mail of the electronic kind, and all other online traffic, using the Compliance Commander from Intrusion Inc. The $1.5 billion CU, the largest postal credit union in the country, will use the hardware device to detect and block unencrypted transmissions of non-public information – such as addresses, Social Security and account numbers and PINs – through all of its outgoing data ports. Atlanta Postal CU is the fourth credit union to deploy the hardware device – which typically sits behind the firewall to integrate with the institution's data network – joining $1.5 billion Texans CU in Texas and California's $109 million Pasadena FCU and $242 million Partners FCU. The new service will supplement the CU's existing firewall and intrusion prevention monitoring and will help Atlanta Postal stay in compliance with NCUA and GLBA requirements for protecting members' personal information, according to Intrusion, based in Richardson, Texas. Atlanta Postal CU is working with FiLink Inc., an Atlanta-based IT security firm and Intrusion Inc. reseller.
