WESTBROOK, Me. - New products and services offered by Maine'scredit unions allowed them to post consistent, healthy growth forthe first half of 2005. The Maine Credit Union League reported thatits 74 affiliated CUs showed growth in every category includingassets, membership, shares and loans. During the six-month period,combined assets of Maine's CUs grew 2.97%, nearly $114 million to$3.94 billion. Savings were up 3.12% to more than $3.3 billion, andmembership saw a net gain of just over 3,000 members to a new highof 603,337 consumers in Maine belonging to a credit union. TheLeague reports that nationally, Maine has been ranked as the fifthstrongest credit union state for the past three years. Nearly onein two Maine residents uses a credit union.
