MINNEAPOLIS – Doug Stang, a former state representative who is most well-known in the credit union movement for his work on the 2002 Minnesota Credit Union Protection Act, has joined the lobbying team at Lockridge Grindal Nauen P.L.L.P., the Minnesota Credit Union Network's outside lobbying firm. Working with Joe Matthews, MnCUN's director of governmental affairs, Stang will join LGN's Kathi Micheletti as lead lobbyist for credit unions. "Doug is liked and well-respected at the Capitol. For credit unions to have someone in our corner with his background and knowledge of our issues is a huge boost to our political capital," said Matthews. Stang, a Republican, was the lead author on the groundbreaking legislation for Minnesota CUs. At the time he was Vice Chair of the House Commerce Committee. He was elected to the state House of Representatives in 1996 when he was 22 years old and served until June 2004. During his eight years in the state legislature, he was the chair of the Higher Education Finance Committee and an assistant majority leader serving on the Executive Committee of the House GOP Caucus while the Republican majority grew to 82 members. He most recently served as a Deputy Commissioner of Health in the administration of Gov. Tim Pawlenty.
