American First Credit Union, La Habra, Calif., has donated $9,600 to the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Funds were raised through weekly contributions to the “Credit Unions For Kids” program by employees over the past year. By participating in the program for the past eight years, American First CU staffers have donated a total of $71,600 to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Workers’ Credit Union, Fitchburg, Mass., has helped sponsor a book drive for Johnny Appleseed Elementary School. Spurring students on the credit union offered a pizza party to each grade level that collected the most books. Students collected 7,506 new and gently used books for local children and their families. The books will go to families that do not have the money to buy books for their children. Achieva Credit Union, Largo, Fla., has presented $14,000 to the Children’s Miracle Network during an annual All Children’s Hospital Telethon. Achieva CU employees and members raised the funds over the course of a year through events such as a popular Holiday Basket Raffle. Pen Air Federal Credit Union, Pensacola, Fla., with a $1,500 matching grant from the Armed Forces Financial Network has raised $31,500 for the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society. The organization offers financial and counseling support to military families.
