RIVERSIDE, Calif. – While new officers have been elected to the Altura Credit Union board, the CU hasn’t forgotten its former chairman. In a show of support for former Board Chairman Larry Ward, who has been appointed interim Riverside County Recorder/ Clerk/Assessor to replace Gary Orso, who retired earlier this year, Altura CU has hosted a fundraising event for him. Ward will run for the office in the regularly scheduled election in 2006. “Altura’s board is a dedicated group of volunteers that has provided leadership during a period of unprecedented growth in our financial institution,” said Altura CU President/CEO Mark Hawkins. “Because of their leadership, time and energy, we have been able to assist our members in achieving their financial goals.” Officers elected for the 2006 year are as follows: Bob Gray, chairman; Dr. Ron Pardee vice chairman; Cathy Nava treasurer; and Ofelia Valdez-Yeager secretary. The remaining board directors include the following: Keith Downs, Linda Wisher, Jerry Rivera, Doug Huckaby, Frank Colt and Mark Balys. The Board’s nine volunteer members serve staggered three-year terms. Gray, a retired public educator, most recently from the University of California at Riverside, has served on the board since 1973. Pardee, a board member since 1992, is a professor of business administration and management at Riverside Community College. Nava, on the board since 1993, is a realtor with Tower Realty in Riverside. The newest member of Altura’s Board, Valdez-Yeager, who joined the board in 1997, is with the Riverside County Office of Education. In addition, Huckaby who has served since 1974 has announced that he will step in December 2005. He recently announced his retirement as the Dean of Athletics at California Baptist University.
