Now that the affiliated credit unions of the Maryland and D.C. Credit Union Leagues have approved the merger of the two groups and the formation of the Maryland and District of Columbia Credit Union Association, work has begun to forming the board of the new association to be seated by Jan. 1, 2006. The new board will be comprised of 13 seats which will include the 10 individuals on the current Maryland League board. In addition to those 10 seats, three new seats – to be elected by the credit unions in the District of Columbia – will be added. That election will take place before the end of 2005. Those three directors will also have board seats in the new association as of Jan. 1, 2006. In 2006, elections for the Maryland and District of Columbia Credit Union Association Board will be held to fill any expiring terms. Candidates from the whole association will be eligible to run for the open seats. In addition, a new D.C. League Chapter is being created – Maryland already has three chapters, and the MD DC CUA will have four. The currently DCCUL Board will become the Chapter Board.
