HealthAmerica Credit Union, Jacksonville, Fla., has recently honored St. Vincent’s Employees CU Manager Elizabeth Martinez for her quick thinking. Martinez spoiled the plot on two different occasions for crooks attempting to forge checks on two separate member accounts. In both cases, her instinct told her something wasn’t right and upon further investigation into the validity of the checks (which later turned out to have been forged), both attempts failed, with the crooks fleeing. Police were able to arrest one impersonator. St. Vincent’s Employees CU is a division of HealthAmerica CU. Cabrillo Credit Union, San Diego, Senior Vice President of Human Resources Anne McClure, has recently been honored for her contribution to the Academy of Finance program offered at Scripps Ranch High School (SRHS). McClure was one of the creators of the Academy of Finance, a national organization that introduces high school students to the broad career opportunities of the financial services industry, which was launched at SRHS in 2001. Her efforts were instrumental to the development of the program’s curriculum and she has held the position of Chair for the past four years. Michigan Credit Union League, Northville Township, has honored two Michigan credit union staff members and one credit union with the 2005 MCUL Youth Education Awards. The awards, developed by the MCUL Family Involvement Council, recognize extraordinary efforts related to advancing youth financial literacy and attracting youth to the Michigan credit union movement. The winners are as follows: Rose Evers, education specialist with Royal Oakland Community CU, Credit Union Youth Advocate of the Year; Laura Kobrzycki, youth representative with Advantage One FCU, Class Act Award in recognition of outreach, innovative teaching styles and/or unique classroom partnerships; METRO Credit Union Generation Next Award for its overall achievement and outstanding contributions to the credit union youth movement.
