As one of two volunteers who ran in this year's NAFCU election, I am a strong believer that in the movement the volunteers are an essential part of the system and should rightfully be better represented on trade association boards. The associations want our attendance at their conferences and our dollars in their coffers, but do not want our input into what should be presented, or how the association should be managed. These same associations are the first to claim the big difference between banks and credit unions is the volunteers, yet they continue to keep volunteers out of their governance roles. If a volunteer has the time and background to serve, they should be encouraged to do so and not be denied that opportunity Bob Scott Director Pentagon FCU Alexandria, Va.
