FORT COLLINS, Colo. - G. Charles "Chuck" Mabry, president/CEO, Norlarco CU promised his board when he decided to retire he'd give them one year's notice - and he has kept that promise. The 64-year old Mabry has announced his plans to retire June 30,2006. Previously employed in executive capacities with Fort Collins-based private and public sector companies, Mabry has been president/CEO of Norlarco since January 1998 - he succeeded Ray Swanson - and has helped the CU reach several important milestones since then. He's taken the CU from being a $132 million financial with 30,000 members to the eighth largest in the state with $330 million in assets and 50,000 members. During his tenure with Norlarco, the CU opened branches in Loveland and north Fort Collins, built a new branch on Research Boulevard, and converted the former Research Boulevard branch into a corporate office and operations center. In 2003, Norlarco merged with Front Range FCU, Windsor, and that opened up Norlarco's field-of-membership to include that community and western Weld County. In 2004 the CU expanded its community charter to include all of Larimer County. In addition to his responsibilities with Norlarco, Mabry has also been active in several volunteer activities. He is currently chairman of the Colorado Credit Union League, and has served on the Fort Collins City County, been a member of the Platte River Power Authority Board, Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Colorado Legislative Alliance. He also served two years as chairman of the State Board of Agriculture. Norlarco Chairman John Olienyk said the CU plans to form a search committee to find a new president/CEO and "will work toward a smooth transition to new leadership." Mabry was traveling and unavailable for comment at press time, but a Norlarco spokesperson said he and his wife Marcia "have a tremendous amount of energy and like to travel. I'm sure they'll both spend a lot of time with their four children and just enjoying themselves."
