EDS Credit Union, Plano, Texas has sponsored the 15th annual North Texas Komen Race for the Cure, which benefits the work of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Some 40 employees and their families represented the credit union. To help spread the word that EDS Credit Union membership is available to everyone who lives or works in Collin County or within a 15-mile radius of its main office, visitors to the EDS Credit Union booth were invited to register for a drawing to win $500. North Jersey Federal Credit Union, Totowa, has donated $2,500 to the American Red Cross. Contributions will benefit the Community Flood Victim Relief Fund. In early April 2005 floods ravaged the Passaic County area and residents here are still trying to rebuild their lives. Saugus Federal Credit Union, Mass., has raised $10,000 for the Children's Miracle Hospital of Boston. The donation for the Credit Unions of Massachusetts Kids at Heart program represents the proceeds from a recent Scavenger Hunt fundraiser involving SFCU staff, directors, members, local officials and residents. The winning purple scavenger hunt team was honored with floral bouquets. Funds were presented to Eastern Corporate FCU to benefit the hospital. Pawtucket Credit Union, R.I., has committed to donating up to $10,000 to The Tomorrow Fund, which provides financial and emotional support to children with cancer and their families. The credit union presented the cancer fund an initial donation of $2,500, and has pledged to give $25 for each account opened before Aug. 18, up to 300. Florida Credit Union League, Tallahassee, Escambia Chapter has donated $60,000 to a group known as Rebuild Northwest Florida as part of an effort to assist the victims of hurricanes that have struck the city of Pensacola in the past year. The $60,000 donation is from 16 credit unions from the chapter and funds from the Florida Credit Union Foundation, sponsored by FCUL. Rebuild Northwest Florida is a public/private partnership existing to coordinate need-based recovery initiatives for citizens of Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties impacted by Hurricane Ivan. First Service Federal Credit Union, Groveport, Ohio, staffers have donated their time to host the annual Independence Day picnic for the community with over 400 people in attendance.
