WATERLOO, Iowa – John Deere Community Credit Union (JDCCU) hopes it has created the perfect new name – Veridian Credit Union. Derived from a combination of the words "verdant," meaning green and growing, and "veritas," or truth, the name is designed to celebrate the best of what the credit union has become while defining JDCCU's future vision. In addition embedded and highlighted in the word are the letters "ia" to signify "the credit union's pride in being an Iowa credit union that exists to serve the financial needs of generations of Iowa families." "For over 70 years, JDCCU has built a strong foundation with our members and the communities we serve," said JDCCU CEO Jean Trainor. "We are excited to look to the future with a strong, welcoming and inclusive new name that celebrates our history." The move was sparked by a request from Deere & Company in early 2005 that credit unions not directly affiliated with nor a subsidiary of the company change their name as a way to help avoid trademark confusion. Also impacted by the name change request are East Moline, Illinois-based Deere Harvester CU and Ottumwa, Iowa-based Deere Community Federated CU. JDCCU will propose the new name on Sunday, August 21 during a meeting at Hawkeye Community College, which will be broadcast to other campuses via the Iowa Communications Network. Pending credit union membership approval and approval from the Iowa Credit Union Division, the new name will be effective January 1, 2006.
