IRWINDALE, Calif. - The Baldwin Park Chamber of Commerce hasrecently honored SCE Federal Credit Union as the 2004-2005"Business of the Year." In addition to the Baldwin Park Chamber ofCommerce honor, SCE FCU was also the recipient of variousrecognitions including a "certificate of Special CongressionalRecognition" from Congresswoman Hilda Solis, a "County of LosAngeles Commendation from Supervisor Gloria Molina, a "State ofCalifornia Senate Certificate of Recognition" from the office ofSenate Majority Leader Gloria Romero, and a "California StateAssembly Certificate of Recognition" from Assemblyman Ed Chavez.The "Business of the Year" award is presented to the business thatexemplifies a demonstrated commitment to community. SCE FCU wonthis year's award in the category of businesses with more than 15employees. Other finalists in this category included Wal-Mart andHome Depot. As part of the credit union's commitment to thecommunity it serves, SCE FCU has supported several Baldwin Parkorganizations and causes including community clean-up projects,food giveaway programs and holiday toy drives. In 2004, SCE FCUvolunteer employees devoted an estimated 380 hours of service tothe Baldwin Park community. In addition, as SCE FCU's "adopted"school, Geddes Elementary is the recipient of several financialdonations and volunteer participation in school programs. SCE FCUalso conducts financial literacy education seminars several times amonth free of charge for school parents, local residents andbusinesses as part of their on-going commitment to teaching skillsnecessary to achieve financial stability and growth. "We arehonored to receive this award from the Baldwin Park Chamber ofCommerce, " said SCE FCU Chief Operations Officer George Poitou."We are about people helping people.
