ALEXANDRIA, Va. - NCUA's Region IV Director, Jane Walters, is "carefully considering" the $1.4 billion Community Credit Union's ballot certification package before deciding whether or not to validate the credit union's charter change vote. The package consists of a 17-page letter and numerous attachments, according to the agency. The credit union conducted its special meeting in June and more than 70% of members voting approved the charter change. NCUA has said for months that it will not certify the vote based on what it has described as disclosure documents which, it says, violated both its regulations and an agreement about how its disclosure package will be assembled. Supporters of the credit union have been outraged that the agency would refuse to certify the vote based on what the credit union considers a technicality. This is the first time since May, when the agency first told the credit union that it would not certify its balloting, that the NCUA has suggested that it might go ahead and approve the vote after all. The agency has 10 days in which to make its decision, according to its regulations.
