WASHINGTON-Credit unions need to keep their eyes out for legislation as it moves through Congress. As one can see from the list below, the House has been moving quickly to resolve some credit union issues. However, the Senate-the more deliberative body of Congress-has been a bit slow on the uptake. While bankruptcy reform finally became law this year, the Senate has failed to introduce regulatory relief legislation, which the House has passed a few years in a row. This year, the House appears to be waiting on the Senate in this matter, but the bill is closer than ever to being introduced in the Senate. Credit union lobbyists are saying some action in the Senate is possible before Congress' August recess. As it winds through the legislative process, credit unions may want to keep a close watch on the following list of bills.
