I am writing to voice strong objections to factual errors in the June 22 story entitled, "Joint Automotive/Firefighter Credit Union Meetings to End." Linda Bikoff is quoted stating that the Combined Council of Automotive Credit Unions and Firefighters group would have split this year except for hotel contractual obligations. Nothing could be further from the truth. At no time did the board of CCACU discuss with Bikoff the severing of meeting arrangements with Firefighter credit unions. On the contrary, we enjoyed our relationship with the Firefighters and would look forward to a continued relationship with their credit unions should they elect to continue meeting with us. The article also stated that the Firefighters were responsible for attracting various vendors to the meeting. All of the vendors cited as being brought by the Firefighters were in fact attendees at our meetings long before the development of joint meetings in 2002, and CCACU has strong relationships with all of them. I am further troubled by the implication from the story that the CCACU cannot find common ground to hold joint meetings with the Firefighter credit unions. Credit unions are credit unions. Our fields of membership may differ but we inherently have the same basic issues and we have found that we have lots to agree upon during our last three years of meeting. It is my fervent hope that we continue joint meetings. James H. Carson President Daimler Chrysler Council of Credit Unions Warren, Mich. Editor's note: Credit Union Times stands by the story's accuracy.
