Premier Credit Union, Palatine, Ill., has announced the recipients of its Charles F. Nagel and Donald Maddox Scholarships. Twelve students received $1,500 each to aid in their continued studies. Scholarships were awarded based on academic performance and community service. Premier CU has been awarding annual scholarships for over 15 years. Houston Texas Fire Fighters Federal Credit Union, has awarded scholarships to the following members: Melodie Chandler, Rachel Habegger, Darrell Havemann, Marc Maziarz, and Amanda Pena. Each recipient has been presented $1,000. Applicants were selected based on academic achievement, character, leadership, community involvement and a essay response. IU Credit Union,Bloomington, Ind. has recently awarded $3,000 in high school scholarships for the 2005-2006 academic year. This is the second consecutive year IU CU provided scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Winners include Kathryn DeWeese, Robert Gottlieb and Daniel Hampton. Each winner was awarded a $1,000 scholarship to the school of their choice. IU CU also provides $20,000 in scholarships to members who are returning students of Indiana University and Ivy Tech State College. New York State Credit Union League, Latham, has awarded a total of $19,000 to 31 college-bound students: seven $1,000 scholarships and 24 $500 awards. Scholarship applicants competed against other credit union members across the state. Judging was based on their academic performance, extracurricular and community activities, an essay question and a teacher's reference. E & A Credit Union, Port Huron, Mich., has helped six local students receive an extra $500 of spare-change as a reward for their academic excellence. E&A Credit Union has awarded $1,500 to both Baker College of Port Huron and St. Clair Community College(SC4) students. Scholarship winners from Baker College were Katrina Ciccarello, Yolanda Ruhstorser and Michelle DeMeyer. Scholarship recipients from SC4 were Kim Martin, Andrea Gliniecki and Christina Gondol. Naval Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union, Virginia Beach, Va., has announced the winners of its John C. Barnes and Ward Green honorary $1,000 scholarships. This year's winner is Belleine Najacque. A second scholarship has been presented to Samantha Umali, a student presently enrolled in an institution of higher learning. All high school students who applied for these scholarships were winners. Each received a $50 savings bond. TruWest Credit Union, Tempe, Ariz., has introduced the DiSylvester Memorial Scholarship to Arizona State University (ASU) and University of Texas (UT) students. Peter DiSylvester was the CEO of TruWest from 1974-1997. He was known for his kindness and dedication to increasing financial awareness and overall education. Created for students entering their junior year of college the scholarship has been presented to Michelle Kreieg, Laura Thorson, and Stephanie Tran. Winners will receive two-year $2,500 scholarships . Desert Schools Credit Union, Phoenix, has awarded a total of $10,000 to local high school seniors. The Desert Schools FCU Community Service Award honors outstanding, civic-minded students.
