VIENNA, Va. – Navy Federal Credit Union members are the latest phishing target. The world's largest credit union has issued a fraud alert that an email that claims to be from Navy Federal asks members for personal and financial account information and provides a link. "The e-mail contains a link to a site which actually looks like Navy Federal's Account Access Sign-On page. If you attempt to sign on and follow the instructions contained in the e-mail, you're taken to other pages that also look like actual pages from the Navy Federal's Web site, including a page that asks you to enter personal and account information," the alert states. "This information includes your name, Social Security number, date of birth, credit card number and expiration date, ATM personal identification number and e-mail address. Please don't be fooled. Navy Federal will never send you unsolicited e-mails." The alert is prominently placed on the credit union's Web site and members who received the fraudulent email are urged to forward it to [email protected].
