ORLANDO, Fla. – CUNA Mutual Group recently recognized Dupaco Community Credit Union with its 2005 Roy F. Bergengren Award for High Achievement. CUNA Mutual has bestowed the Bergengren Award on individuals and credit unions since 1990. It recognizes their commitment to the self-help ideals and philosophy espoused by Roy F. Bergengren (1879-1955), a pioneer in the credit union movement. As the 2005 Bergengren winner, Dupaco Community was cited for its strong community involvement, the variety of services it provides its various groups of members, and its leadership's active involvement with the credit union system, CUNA Mutual said. The $355 million credit union was founded in 1948 by 10 employees of the Dubuque Packing Company. With its expanded charter, Dupaco now serves anyone living or working in a 22-county area in northeast Iowa, southwest Wisconsin, and northwest Illinois. Dupaco was among the first credit unions in its area to provide investment services through its CUSO, Dupaco Financial Services; trust services through its unique alliance with First Community Trust, and business lending services that include disbursing a record $36 million in loans to tri-state-area businesses in 2004.
