PHILADELPHIA.- More than 100 kids of all ages-from three years old to probably 53 years old-helped raise $22,000 for children in need by sliding into a 700-gallon pool of strawberry gelatin at the 12th Annual Gelatin Olympics sponsored by American Heritage FCU on June 15. Proceeds from the event support a music therapy program for developmentally and physically disabled children at the Children's Seashore House of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. In addition to the Ultimate Gelatin Slide, the day's activities included a Gelatin Pie Eating Contest and Gelatin Balloon Toss. According to Bruce Foulke, president and CEO of American Heritage FCU, one of the highlights of the day was not only seeing members of his own credit union take the gelatin plunge but also representatives from other nearby CUs who participated or sponsored sliders. “Credit union folks really came together to help us out,” he said. Foulke also was grateful for good weather that helped draw more than 300 total attendees. “Once you put down a pool of gelatin, rain or shine you have to slide,” he said. Since 1996, American Heritage through its Kids-N-Hope Foundation has donated more than $230,000 to the Children's Seashore House.
