HOUSTON – Houston Texas Fire Fighters Federal Credit Union staffers demonstrated the power of the credit union philosophy with one of their own. HTFFFCU Teller Edward Guzman's children age seven and four were in a vehicle that was struck in a hit-and-run accident. His son was thrown from the vehicle while his daughter was trapped inside and both were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital downtown with extensive injuries. Wanting to help the single father, staffers quickly formed a committee to begin fundraising efforts. A series of bake sales, raffles and silent auctions helped raise over $5,000 to lend a helping hand to the Guzman family. Countless numbers of employees also volunteered their own sick time and vacation time to ensure that Guzman would continue to receive a check while his children were in the hospital. Currently, Guzman's children are both doing well in their recovery and are home.
