SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Redwood Credit Union (RCU) is part of a citywide salute to Peanutsr creator Charles M. Schulz by sponsoring “It’s Your Town, Charlie Brown” hosted by the city of Santa Rosa. The effort honors the work and contributions of Schulz, a long-time Santa Rosa resident, and includes the display of 55 uniquely decorated Charlie Brown statues throughout the city through September 2005. As a sponsor of the program, RCU is featuring a 5’5″ statue of Charlie Brown in front of one of its Santa Rosa branches. “Redwood Credit Union is honored to be a sponsor of this important tribute to Charles Schulz, and we are proud to host one of the world’s favorite comic strip characters at our 4th Street/Santa Rosa branch location,” said RCU President/CEO Brett Martinez. “As a large community credit union headquartered in Santa Rosa, we felt this was a great way to pay tribute to Mr. Schulz and also express our thanks and commitment to our community.” To find its “inner artist” RCU held a design contest among staffers. The winning design, submitted by Pamela Sabados and Samantha Paull is called “Flying Through Sonoma County,” and depicts several Peanuts characters enjoying well-known Sonoma County landmarks. These two employee artists painted their design on the statue during a four-day “paint off” event held the first weekend in May. In September 2005, RCU’s statue will be temporarily moved to Santa Rosa’s Courthouse Square for a two-week celebration featuring all 55 Charlie Brown statues.
