SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Redwood Credit Union has raised over $6,200 for North Bay non-profit groups by supporting “The Human Race.” Over 50 volunteers from the credit union walked or ran in the race to raise funds for a variety of local non-profit organizations. “The Human Race is such a positive event for bringing people together, we are proud to show our support through sponsorship and participation each year, ” said RCU President/CEO Brett Martinez. “ It’s a great way for our employees to get involved and connect with our communities.” Sponsored by the counties’ Volunteer Centers, the Human Race invites participants to collect pledges and walk or run a specified course to earn money for local charitable agencies. This year the Marin event drew over 4,000 participants and the Sonoma County race drew more than 9,000. In celebration of the recently introduced RCU youth accounts program, several of the RCU Sonoma County walkers created a “centipede” by joining together their children’s strollers with festive ribbon and balloons. Also accompanying the RCU walking team at the Sonoma County race was RCU youth account mascot, Reddy the Redwood. At the Marin Human Race, RCU hosted a booth and provided free bottled water to race participants. In addition to participating annually in the Sonoma and Marin County Human Races, RCU is actively involved in a number of community programs throughout the year, including Schools Plus, Hands Across the County, the American Red Cross, and the United Way.
