MADISON, Wis. -CUNA has scheduled two Webinars in August of interest to credit union staff involved with mortgage lending and handling checks. The Aug. 11th Webinar, “The Economics & Residential Mortgage Lending” is designed to provide an understanding on how the economy affects housing demand and mortgage lending activity and how credit unions manage their mortgage lending in response to multiple factors. The Webinar will also explain how the Federal Reserve controls interest rates and factors that move mortgage interest rates, and review current credit union mortgage lending activity. On Aug. 10 and 24, CUNA will hold another Webinar entitled “Understanding Checks & Share Drafts” to help credit union staff who need to understand checks and share drafts and their procedures. The Webinar will outline check and share draft basics, the elements of a check, check handling policies and procedures, the check clearing system and endorsements. In addition to these Webinars, CUNA has scheduled a two-part Webinar on July 13 and 20 – “NCUA Requirements and Guidance” – that will focus on a variety of compliance issues, using RegTraC, CUNA’s Regulatory Compliance Training and Certification Program, as the basis for the program. Topics will include an NCUA overview, share insurance, management issues, field-of-membership, supervisory/audit committees, investment rules, and CUSOs. CUNA says more than 17 Webinars will be offered in the third quarter of 2005.
