VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – There's been a changing of the guard at Chartway Federal Credit Union as Everett Lewis Gull Jr. has been elected the new board chairman. Gull succeeds Jack L. McGrath, whose four-year term as chairman has come to an end. Gull has been a member of Chartway FCU since 1980, a volunteer since 1981 and a volunteer board member since 1996. Most recently, he has served on the board of directors as first vice chairperson. A 1976 graduate of Old Dominion University, Gull held many line and staff positions in the federal government before retiring in April 2004, including aircraft production superintendent for the production department of the Naval Aviation Depot in Norfolk. As a line superintendent, Gull managed an organization of 185 employees and assets of more than $100 million. Employees performing administrative and direct support for the repair and modification of the Navy's F-14 aircraft were under his leadership and management. As a staff leader, Gull provided technical expertise and assistance to all levels of management concerning position and job classification and labor and employee relations. "Lou has been an invaluable member of the Chartway family for many years," said Ronald L. Burniske, president/CEO of Chartway FCU. "His knowledge of Chartway – and the banking industry – makes him the perfect person to lead Chartway into the future." Gull currently is an understudy at the Hampton Roads Naval Museum and is training to become a volunteer docent. He is an alumnus of Alpha Kappa Psi at Old Dominion University, the oldest professional co-ed fraternity in the university's school of business, and a past Jaycee Director (1977-82). At Chartway FCU, Gull serves as the chairman of the volunteer recruitment and development, pension investment and technology committees. He also is the vice chairman of the human resource committee and is active on the asset liability management committee.
