Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union, Md., President/CEO Don Lewis has been honored for his 10 years of service as a board member for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Harford County. APGFCU is a longtime advocate and sponsor of the Boys and Girls Clubs and recently contributed $8,000 to support the work they do for the youth of our community. West Community Credit Union, O’Fallon, Mo., has awarded two lucky Dardenne Elementary School teachers with a grant to participate in a week-long Early American History workshop at the Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute in Williamsburg, Virginia. This year’s recipients are Amy Schwartz and E. Anne Burke.The Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute provides participants with interactive teaching techniques and the skills to become mentor teachers, assisting their peers and other educators in developing new techniques for teaching American History to students. Georgia Federal Credit Union, Duluth, has won first place in the 2004 Dora Maxwell Award for Social Responsibility Program for credit unions between $200-$500 million in asset size. GFCU’s community involvement program consisted of 24 projects including: A Community Speakers’ Bureau, Partners in Education, Annual Scholarship Competition and various fundraisers just to name a few. The Social Responsibility Recognition Program, sponsored by the Georgia Credit Union Affiliates and CUNA honors credit unions for their involvement in community projects and activities. People’s Alliance Federal Credit Union, Hauppauge, N.Y., President/CEO Nicholas M. Lacetera has recently been honored with a Heart and Soul dinner by the Greater Ronkonkomas Chamber of Commerce. The event honored those in the community who unselfishly give their time and talent to make their town a better place to live. Lacetera was not only honored for his work by the Ronkonkoma Chamber, but also by local and state government officials, for his dedicated and loving work for Canine Assistants. March Community Credit Union, Moreno Valley, Calif., has been presented the Layman’s Award from the City of Moreno Valley Park’s & Recreation Department at the Annual Awards and Installation Banquet for the California Park & Recreation Society, District XI serving San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. The Layman’s Award is presented each year to an individual group or organization for their outstanding involvement and contribution to the community through their City’s Parks and Recreation Department.
