WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Marking its first year anniversary this month, the Victory Junction Gang Camp is getting a special donation this month of $9,000 in new dining tables thanks to the $180 million Members Credit Union. "Our branches are close to Victory Junction and so we're always glad to help out," said Matt Davis, director of public relations for Members, which since the camp's development began in 2003 has raised $20,000 from charity events including an annual golf tournament. Members is one of scores of North and South Carolina CUs which are the benefactors for the Victory Junction Camp, a medical facility for chronically-ill youngsters opened by the Petty race car family and actor Paul Newman in June 2004, The new Asian Oak tables, delivered May 16, were painted and assembled on the camp site in Level Cross by staffers of Members led by Bob Donley, executive vice president who with his wife have spent many hours at the camp serving as weekend "Crew Chief" or camp counselors to the stricken youngsters. Children from across the South are expected here this week to begin the summer camp program where their special needs are met in a relaxed setting.
