WASHINGTON-A House Financial Services Subcommittee had planned to hold a hearing last week after press time to explore ways to help consumers without a credit history to obtain credit. The House Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, chaired by Representative Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.), had slated the hearing, entitled "Helping Consumers Obtain the Credit They Deserve," May 12. The panel will explore various alternatives for aiding more consumers to obtain credit by looking at rent, utility, and other types of payments not typically included on a credit report. Witnesses had not been publicized as of deadline.
