MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Clearview Federal Credit Union is now using an encryption solution that allows the CU to communicate more securely via the e-mail channel. The $587 million CU has deployed encryption software from GlobalCerts (www.globalcerts.com) of Charlottesville, Va., to ensure the security of such electronic communications, including those containing non-public personal information. The SecureMail Gateway solution requires no software at the desktop level and allows secure communication with any recipient e-mail address or Web browser, the company says. Deploying it allows the credit union to comply with Gramm-Leach-Bliley rules concerning privacy as well as serve members better. "Our employees continue to send and receive e-mails as they always have, only now they can send information securely," says Lisa Fitz, network services manager for Clearview, Pennsylvania's sixth-largest and the former U.S. Airways FCU. About 40% of GlobalCerts' hundreds of clients are financial institutions, says the company's director of business development, Sean Steele, including credit unions in Washington state, California, Arizona and Pennsylvania.
