BOSTON – Katie Lynch a life long patient of Children's Hospital Boston and a Kids at Heart MarathonTeam runner, was a guest speaker at EasCorp's recent Annual Meeting. Lynch, who is 28 inches tall and has a unique form of dwarfism, graduated from Regis College last May and has since been working at Children's Hospital as a patient advocate. Lynch participated on the Children's Hospital Kids at Heart Marathon Team by walking a symbolic 26.2 feet across the Marathon starting line, becoming the first runner across the start line of the 2001 Boston Marathon. Credit union representatives honored Lynch and the six credit union runners who raised over $40,000 for Children's Hospital. The runners include: Aileen Smith, representing Digital FCU, Maynard, MA; Ray Phillips, representing Hanscom FCU, Hanscom, MA; Holly Herman, representing Kraft Foods FCU, White Plains, NY; Michael Hobin, representing Quincy Municipal CU, Quincy, MA; Stanley Benson, representing Tremont CU, Braintree, MA; and David Dickens, representing U.S. Central CU, Overland Park, KS. "By sponsoring the Kids at Heart Marathon Team, not only are you raising money, and awareness of the wonderful things Children's Hospital does, but you're also raising awareness of the challenges that the patients and families go through. These patients have their own marathon to `run' each and every day of their lives," said Lynch. This is the sixth consecutive year during which credit unions raised funds for Children's Hospital Boston. Last year, Credit Unions of Massachusetts raised $210,000 for Children's Hospital Boston and they plan on exceeding that amount this year. EasCorp coordinates the Credit Unions of Massachusetts fundraising effort, which is made up of 24 credit unions.
