HONOLULU – HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union has helped Princess Kaiulani Elementary School with its project to raise 1,000,000 pennies ($10,000) for the tsunami victims. When the school came up with the idea to collect a million pennies HawaiiUSA FCU was the only financial institution to step forward with assistance. The credit union purchased penny wrappers, plastic bags, seals and ties for the one million pennies. HawaiiUSA FCU also arranged and paid for the armored car to pick up the pennies and deliver it to Bank of Hawaii. In a little over three months, students, parents, faculty and the community exceeded the goal and collected a total of $11,732.51. Governor Linda Lingle and Department of Education Superintendent Pat Hamamoto participated in the donation ceremony.
