BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Charlotte Young Williams, former president/CEO, Listerhill CU, died April 17 after a long but courageous battle with cancer. She was 56. An employee of Listerhill CU, Muscle Shoals, from 1974-2002, she headed the credit union – one of Alabama's largest with more than $268 million in assets – from 1994-2002. Williams also served as a board member for the Alabama Credit Union League, the Alabama Credit Union Administration, and was president of the ACUL's Muscle Shoals Chapter of Credit Unions. Williams was preceded in death by her husband Albert (Al) Williams who also was a leader in the credit union movement – he served as ACUL chairman, CUNA chairman and was 1st vice chairman of the World Council of Credit Unions. Alabama Credit Union League President/CEO Gary Wolter described Williams as "a true friend of credit unions," adding that "her service and dedication has gone a long way toward strengthening the credit union movement here in Alabama. She will be missed dearly."
