LANCASTER, Pa. – LANCO Federal Credit Union here is fighting fraud while lessening hassles for its members by scanning in images of drivers' licenses for easy retrieval at the teller window. The $41 million CU is using a Web-based check and drivers' license electronic capture solution from COWWW Software (www.cowww.com) of Belmont, Mich. LANCO currently has about 1,000 members' photos in its system, using a single scanner, with plans to add two more scanners and have about 3,000 of the CU's 9,500 members archived within six months, says Shawn Bleacher, IT manager at LANCO FCU (www.lancofcu.com). Now, instead of asking members to show IDs or searching through files for photocopies, LANCO tellers can retrieve scanned-in drivers' licenses or checks on their workstations. The server-based system also eliminates the need for software on individual PCs. "It not only works better and more efficiently, but it's cheaper for us now and in the long term," Bleacher says. COWWW Software products now are in is in use about 450 financial institutions, the company says.
