Postal Credit Union, Woodbury, Minn., has raised $4,075 to Hunger Solutions, a statewide partnership of organizations dedicated to eliminating the root causes of hunger. Funds were raised during a "skip a payment" promotion where $20 would be donated to Hunger Solutions for each member who opted to skip a payment. New York State Credit Union League, Latham, Southern Tier District Public Relations and Marketing Council has raised a total of $1,413 for Mom's House. For the fifth consecutive year the team walked away with first place honors by raising the most money during the Mom's House "Rocker-Thon" fundraiser. The eleven rockers representing Southern Tier District credit unions were awarded a $100 gift certificate to Wal-Mart for their efforts. PRMC donated the gift certificate back to Mom's House, thus making its donation a total of $1,513. USA Credit Union, Auburn Hills, Mich., has raised $648 during the WOMC-FM 18th Annual Dick Purtan Radiothon to benefit the Salvation Army Bed and Bread Club. The credit union matched employee contributions dollar for dollar and presented a check for a total of $1,296 during the station's recent on-air coverage of the fund-raiser. In addition, staffers raised $1,300 for the Oakland Livingston (Counties) Human Service Agency Walk for Warmth 2005. The credit union also gave a corporate donation of $500. The proceeds will be used to help people with disabilities, low-income, and elderly residents of Oakland and Livingston Counties who have had their heat shut off or who are facing heat shut-offs. Sharon Credit Union, Mass., has donated $2,000 to Sharon Police Lieutenant Kaufman and Chief Bernstein for the Sharon Defibrillator Fund. The Town of Sharon is in the process of raising funds to help equip the Emergency Response Vehicles and Town Offices with defibrillators. Police are usually the first to report to an emergency call and therefore it is vital to supply police cruisers with these state-of-the-art life saving devises. The cost to achieve this goal is approximately $25,000. Wescom Credit Union, Pasadena, Calif., has filled the role of sponsor, administrator, and participant in a recent Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure for Breast Cancer. As a Platinum Sponsor of the Komen Race, Wescom CU has contributed more than $57,000 in donations and labor. In addition some 750 Wescom CU members and employees volunteered or participated in the event. Wescom CU also coordinated the registrations of all participating teams, which resulted in the collection of $73,810 in race registrations. Military and Civilian Federal Credit Union, Fairbanks, Alaska, has sponsored Kid's Fest along with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and KUAC. The day devoted to kids featured MAC's youth mascot Moola Moola who joined the festivities giving out hugs and playing games. The event is held to raise money for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Fairbanks to help improve the well-being of area children. Community Resource Federal Credit Union, Latham, N.Y., has sponsored the Garden Bowl 2005 to benefit Capital District Community Gardens. Community Resource FCU teams raised $1,555, which was 21% of the total $7,500 raised. Not only was one Community Resource FCU team singled out for its fundraising skills but Latham Branch Head Teller Yvonne Vickery was named the second highest individual fundraiser. Funds raised will be used to help support the operation of some 43 community food gardens.
