TEMPE, Ariz. – TruWest Credit Union is taking members out to the ballgame. For the second consecutive year the over $640 million credit union has teamed up with Major League Baseball's Oakland Athletics for spring training. Throughout the spring training season discounted tickets are offered to TruWest members and a TruWest prize wheel is spun during each game to give a person from the crowd a chance to win such prizes as a weekend getaway. In addition to sponsoring the entire spring training season, TruWest CU was recently the title sponsor for an Oakland A's vs. Chicago Cubs game. Prior to the game, TruWest hosted its own member "Idol" search to find a singer for the national anthem. "When we heard Wendy Fiallo sing, her voice literally gave all the judges goosebumps and we knew we had our winner," said TruWest CU Marketing Manager Dale Haines. "This partnership has really been so much fun. This year we also sponsored the fireworks show that marks the end of spring training here." TruWest Board Chairman Tom Cummiskey threw out the first pitch and 10-year old Alex Farbod, son of TruWest Vice President of Consumer Lending, kicked off a new tradition with the Oakland A's and participated in the first hit ceremony. During the game credit union staffers handed out free TruWest bandanas and other promotional giveaways.
