HOUSTON – The PULSE Debit network, now a subsidiary of Discover, has been attacked by a phishing scam. On March 21, the EFT and ATM network became aware of an e-mail circulating to consumers that told consumers to visit a site that resembled a PULSE site and, once there, to enter their names, ATM card numbers and personal identification numbers, according to Cindy Ballard, spokeswoman for Pulse. “Of course our Web site would never ask such a thing,” Ballard said. The network alerted all of its bank and credit union members, as well as the authorities, and the Web site was shut down on the evening of the 21st, Ballard said. By acting quickly, Pulse hopes that it was able to prevent anyone from getting hurt by the site, Ballard said. “We haven’t heard of any case of fraud that has arisen out of this phishing scam,” she said.
