RALEIGH, N.C. – In a move designed to further enhance its mortgage lending program and to make it easier for members to become homeowners, State Employees CU has eliminated the origination fee for its First Time Homebuyer Mortgage program. SECU’s First Time Homebuyer Mortgage is a 100% financing option offered to members who are purchasing their first home or who have not owned a home in the last three years. The program targets members who have little or no capital to make a down payment on a home. SECU began the First Time Homebuyer Mortgage program in 1989, and to date more than $600 million has been loaned to over 6,000 members. SECU, which has more than $12 billion in assets and over one million members, says these loans have performed better than other mortgage programs that require down payments, recording very few losses since the program was introduced 16 years ago.
