SCHOLARSHIPS

Defense Credit Union Council, Washington, has awarded the 2004 George E. Myers Scholarships to Fort Monroe CU President/CEO Michael Guida, and Northern Tier FCU President/CEO Darrell Roos. Guida and Roos will be using their $2,500 scholarships to attend the DCUC Annual Conference in Charleston, S.C. DCUC established the George E. Myers Scholarship Fund in 1969 in honor of Col. George E. Myers, USA (Ret.) Universal 1 Credit Union, Dayton, Ohio, has presented Centerville High School senior Brandon Sakach and Beavercreek High School senior Christine Stier each $1,000 scholarships. The two were selected based on essay responses that clearly illustrated the importance of understanding personal finance, and how Universal 1 Credit Union could help them in this process. Iowa Credit Union Foundation, Des Moines, has recently awarded the League President’s Scholarship to three credit union executives: John Parks, First Class Credit Union, $1,000 toward achieving his Certified Credit Union Executive (CCUE) designation; Leitha Aten, UNI Credit Union, $500 toward completing her CCUE designation and certificate; and Denny Siemers, Town & Country Credit Union, $550 toward registering his credit union’s board members for the Iowa Credit Union League annual convention and enrolling them in certification programs.
