As I read the news coverage about former WorldCom CEO Bernie Ebbers being found guilty on all nine counts, I couldn't help feeling jubilant. As a CEO, I believe in accountability and it bothered me that anyone at the helm of an organization had any capacity to plead ignorance. Well, this time America got it right. This is good for business, and good for all CEOs except those that coddle phrases like "I was caught off guard" and "I just didn't know." Thank God those days are gone – if it's on your watch, it's on your watch. Most credit union CEOs willingly accept these terms and as an industry we should encourage even greater accountability.
